Checkout Heads West

The birthplace of Checkout, as many of you know, is (and always will be) beautiful Amsterdam. But events of the past few months have led us to assemble a new team in a new place. We’ve recently launched Acclivity NYC in Manhattan and we’re decidedly enthusiastic about this new chapter in Checkout’s history. The impact for customers? Initially, very little. You’ll continue to be supported by the same team in our New Jersey-based customer center.  Over time, though, we expect the impact to be significant. We are building a larger team, which will, in turn, deliver a broader, deeper product. More features, faster response times, enhanced stability.

Did we mention we’re hiring?

Big news from Amsterdam

Our friends and partners at Sofa have been acquired by Facebook. Yes, that Facebook. It seems Facebook recognizes world-class design when they see it. The Sofa team will be relocating to Silicon Valley in the coming months and working at Facebook HQ full-time.

So what of Checkout and Enstore?

Acclivity and (an affiliate of) Sofa have simultaneously agreed, in principle, to a deal where Acclivity will own, develop and sell both Checkout and Enstore going forward. We’re beyond excited at what the future holds for both products.

In summation, Checkout and Enstore customers won’t notice a difference in the short-term. Acclivity will be working hard on expanding Checkout and Enstore capabilities. The Sofa guys will be friending/unfriending people for the foreseeable future. Let the champagne flow….

How’s your store doing?

Read on at The Checkout Blog

While Checkout helps you keep tabs on your sales, stock, and customers, how is your store really doing?

You have other expenses, such as rent, utilities, payroll, and insurance. Checkout helps you determine how healthy your bottom line really is by exporting General Journal entries to AccountEdge, so that you can run financial reports and get a better understanding of your profitability.

AccountEdge (including Plus and Network Edition) needs to be installed on the Mac that you’re doing the configuration on. This video covers how to configure the export, and how to import the General Journal Entries.

Helping Japan

One day of Checkout sales will go to help in Japan. Read on at the Checkout blog

We were shocked to hear about the earthquake and subsequent tsunami in Japan. Our thoughts are with everybody who was hurt in this horrible event.

To try and help, we will donate all of today’s Checkout sales to charities that are making a difference in Japan right now. If you were ready to buy a copy of Checkout, but still have some days left in your trial, or if you could use an additional copy in your store, we’d like to ask you to seriously consider buying today so we can donate 100% of your purchase to relief efforts in Japan. Or alternatively, please consider donating directly.

Any sales between the moment this post has gone live and 9am (GMT) this Thursday, March 24, will be split between Doctors Without Borders, Habitat for Humanity and the Japanese Red Cross.

Sadly, because this is all so last minute, we won’t be able to include sales from our partners or from retail stores in this action. So to participate, make sure you get Checkout directly from our website.

Thank you for your consideration, together we can make a difference.

Sincerely,

Your friends at Werck, Acclivity, Sofa and Checkout Australia.

The importance of backing up your store.

Read on at The Checkout Blog

This blog entry is so important, that we’re posting it again.

We all have some form of insurance. Life, car, house, apartment, liability, health and maybe even pet. Would you be interested in some insurance that costs nothing?

When is the last time that you backed up your Checkout store? Has it been a while? What happens if your Mac had a hardware issue and your current hard drive wasn’t recoverable? How long would it take you to find your last backup and get it up to date?

If your answer to the last question gave you an uneasy feeling in your stomach, then the time to backup is now.

How do I backup? Launch Checkout and select Manage Stores from under the Checkout pulldown menu.

Where should I save the backup? It’s best to have it safely off of your Mac. While a CD/DVD or USB drive can be used, you can also compress the backup and email it to yourself.

How often should I backup? While once a day is suggested, the big question is how hard would it be to get up and running if you had to restore and use your last backup.

Hopefully this quick and free insurance will allow you to sleep a little better tonight. Pleasant dreams.
