Stock update by CSV

I spoke with a customer representative concerning stock we have no wish to go through the precarious line by line of 5400 sku's to add stock and the cumbersome system of adding by purchase order. The representative said to simply export the file in which I did to CSV as excel and pretty much everything else failed to recognize the import on CSV and Tab Delimited would.

After exporting to CSV and changing the stock field to 10,000 each sku so we don't have to this this time consuming less than productive way again, we found ourselves with a 12 hour import followed by the spinning wheel of death, currently stuck on processing stock updates, the initial import seemed quick, then came adding stock, then this wheel of death on processing stock update.

Seriously, still no import down for 2 days due to this? How long should we wait for this spinning wheel of death? If your own program cannot properly export a csv file and import it in with minor changes how should we proceed?

    Hello Academia,

I'm sorry to hear that you are having this issue. I'd like to clarify what your ultimate goal for your store is. It sounds like the quantity of products you have on-hand are not a concern for you. If you are not worried about having an exact stock quantity within Checkout, could I suggest that you don't even track stock on your products? You do have the option to not track stock which means there is no need for you to adjust the quantity on-hand. This may be something to consider.

I would expect that if you do get the products imported (as it sounds like you have), adding the stock quantity would not be so laborious - though 5,400 SKUs on an import is a lot. Have you tried maybe splitting it in two to see if the import goes through?

Other than that, keep in mind that this is a user moderated forum. If you would like a more immediate response, I would recommend that you submit a free email in the future.

    Greetings,

When I talked to support this is the method they suggested I don't want to
track stock I told them. But I do want to be able to scan a stock item into
the point of sale terminal and I don't know how to do it without having
    stock.

We are now stuck with huge purchase orders that are stuck in the system and
will not let us delete any products out database is bloated due to the
    erroneous advice we were given.

I tried multiple times with different imports about 100 is the best it
would do without errors and on top of that took absurd amounts of time.

Please help I would be greatly appreciative!

    Kind regards,

    Hello Don,

To clarify, you would like to be able to scan the barcodes of products so that you are able to add the product onto a sale. Is that correct? If this is right, you do not need to keep stock on a product in order to be able to scan the item to add it to a sale. Whether or not the product's stock is tracked, you can still enter a unique product code or barcode for the product and use it to scan the product onto a sale.

Nevertheless, if this is how it's been set up, you do have the option to delete the products and recreate them. This may help moving forward so that way the products do not have to be purchased and stock does not have to be increased. Another option would be to export your products list and export your customers and import them into a new store. You could create a new store and say, as of April 1st, all of your sales will be done there. It is something worth considering.

Could you tell me what version of Checkout you are currently running? You can check this by going up to the Checkout menu and choose About Checkout. Generally speaking, you shouldn't need to limit your import by 100, but if groups of 100 are working for you, you may want to just go through that process. I know that will take a lot more time, but that may take less time overall than trying to troubleshoot why your file is struggling with the import.
