Shopify Product Sync, You've got it wrong!

Hi Guys,

So we have migrated to shopify to use with the latest version of Checkout. The product sync is great apart from, instead of using the description on the product variant code, it uploads the code as the product option.

Example

Product is

shorts in red size 32 - code: 1234-r-32

Gives options to buy on shopify as, R and 32. Should be RED, 32

Any ideas if you can fix this as it means that every product that goes up has to be changed. Our product codes match the MPN's of the brands we have meaning that its easy for us to use google shopping etc. Its no good to us to have product codes that would need to read 1234-red-32.

    Hi Shaun,

The issue is not with our store, its with the way in which the shopify
connector reads and allocates the data to shopify.

Its sending the product code to the SKU on shopify which is correct, but its
also sending the product code to the option name, where it should be sending
    the Product code description.

Can you see what I mean now. By all means if I could access the code for the
connector I would but I¹m pretty sure the link you sent me is not for that.

I see what you're saying now. For my store the Code = Description, I'm pretty sure you would need to change the Code to match the actual Description. I'm basing this on my experience using Checkout and Shopify together without any issues using variants. Wish you the best of luck.

    Hi shawn,

I understand what your saying but

    1. I can't use a description as a code because it makes barcodes in the shop way way too long.

    Eg 1234-yellow-32waist-fall

    Instead of 1234-32-aw

    2. I can't use a code as a description because customers would never know what they were buying unless I manually change it for 10k parts

    1234-36-01
    Shimano 11-36 xt cassette

    3. If I did use the description as the code, It would take me a decAde to set up Google shopping.

The easiest way to do it is to change the code on the connector so it reads the code as the code and the code description as the choice the customer sees.

    Regards

    Chris

    Hello Chris,

The way that the Shopify Connector works is that the unique product code for the products in Checkout is pushed to Shopify and used as the product's options. So, in your example, 1234-r-32 produces the options of R and 32. This is how the integration works. At this point, this is not something that is in the works to change, but I'd like to clarify further.

Regarding your previous post where you mention the barcode needs to be specific and short, I just want to make sure it is clear that the barcode and the product code are two separate fields that do not need to match. If you use the code as 1234-Red-32, you'll have the options of Red and 32 but the barcode can be 1234-r-32 if that is what you need it to be.

I hope that this makes sense. If I am understanding that your barcode needs to be unique for Google shopping and other purposes, you should be able to use the code as needed to give you the options.

    Hi Mike,

    You've completely missed the point.

It pulls the product code to shopify as the variant description. NOT the
    variant description like it should.

    1235-005-32

Should be Fox Demo Shorts-Red-32 waist

But the options that the customer gets is

    Colour :005
    Waist: Red

Then if you change 005 to red, like I spent a day doing, when that products
status changes on checkout it puts it back to 005.
