Checkout vs Shopify POS

Hi all I currently use an older version of Checkout and want to upgrade.

I see Shopify now has its own POS product - Shopify POS

Can you tell me what are the advantages of using Checkout and the connector vs using the Shopify's own POS ? Also are there any disadvantages?

Thanks!

I would like to know the answer to this as well. I have the shopify POS, but absolutely HATE the reports. They don't tell you your net sales. They tell you whatever you've EVER sold even if it was returned even though inventory tracking works great. There isn't an option for exchanges. There is only an option to return which you can return individual items, but no exchanges. I would love to know if it's possible to use the shopify POS but have a Mac with checkout and run reports on it that would give me accurate reports, ability to return and exchange items without issuing a refund first. If the items are equal value why should I have to refund and then make a whole new sale? We are a large seasonal business, that some days need 4 employees checking customers out. It would be cost prohibitive to purchase four macs and software, but if I could get away with one and the software and use the shopify POS for the most part and then just use checkout for more intelligent things like reports and returns, that would be wonderful. Currently I am in a reporting nightmare with Shopify!

    Hi Phil and Jeremy:

I'm going to respond to Phil's post first.

It's a little hard to answer this as a general question. I'll do the best I can here. Checkout is a desktop program while I believe the Shopify app is web based. So I would imagine the Shopify POS would have better integration being that it's working with the Shopify website. Checkout was designed for it's simplicity and ease of use. If you need a mobil app - Shopify has that - Checkout doesn't.

Jeremy I'll respond to your questions in a separate post shortly.
