scanner & bar code

We have been printing labels that suddenly the scanner is unable to read at checkout. Could it be a problem with the scanner?

    Hi Sue:

I'm sorry that you're having this issue. You indicated that you were printing labels and now the scanner is unable to read during the checkout process. In order for me to better understand what happened, I would need some more details:
Has this worked before in the past?
When was the last time this worked?
Have you tried restarting your computer?
Where did you purchase the scanner from?
Did you install any recent updates?
Have you tried it in another USB port?
Does the scanner beep when you plug it in?

    Regards,
    Andy

    Hi
We have decided it must be an input issue when we enter a new product.
The barcode line is what is throwing us off. What we enter there is not recognized by
the scanner. Does the scanner need an alphanumerical code to read?
We have just been entering a code with letters only....

Not sure, make sure that you do not have the same barcode somewhere else in another product. Today I just had a barcode issue too, only after some searching seeing the same code on a almost the same item ( half inch bigger).

Perhaps the developers could help us all and not allow a unique barcode to be in there twice?

    Hi Sue:

The barcode should be fine with letters and if you could provide answers back to my questions, this should make it easier for me to identify why this is not working. As always, if you would rather discuss this via a phone call, please reach out to us at (877) 788-1202.

    Tom,

I have sent this up as feedback to our development team.

    I hope this helps.

    Regards,

    Hi Sue:

I'm not seeing it come through the discussion forum. If you're replying within the email, please be sure you're adding the answers above the line:
"// Please reply above this line"

I believe adding information below this line doesn't get added to the post.

    I hope this helps.

    Hi Susan:

Thank you for getting back to me. I'm going to provide a few scenarios for you to try.

Would it be possible you can try restarting your computer first? You indicated that it had worked a day ago and no recent updates were installed, so something could just be blocking it from working.

If after doing a reboot, you're still unable to scan the barcodes, would it be possible I could have you open TextEdit and scan the barcode into here. It should appear as the code you see inside of Checkout, with the cursor blinking on the next line down.
If you could confirm to me if you see it like this, that would be great.

If scanning it into TextEdit does not scan any type of barcode, could you try scanning a barcode that didn't come from Checkout. (eg. A water bottle or candy bar) Let me know the results of this step if the above do not work.

    I hope this information helps.

    Regards,
    Andy

Thank you for the suggestions. I have forwarded them to the store to try as I am not working until Fri.
It seems that the scanner scans old codes, but the new codes assigned to new products is now the problem.
So, it must be an issue with how the barcodes are assigned to the product in the software.

    Hi Sue:

It could be a possibility that the barcodes that were generated are not Code 93 barcodes. We should be able to identify if this is the issue by scanning the barcode into TextEdit and comparing it against what Checkout shows.
