have a graphical user interface to make the sale to the customer on ipad using the database that I have installed on the server of my shop, it's simply an interface with remote access but thought the touch screen ipad

also don't re-invent it from scratch and check out some others players like lightspeeed mobile or shopkeep_POS
I think Shopkeep_pos has a max amount of 500 products ? Not sure, but if we could have an X amount of items in the Ipad so we can use it for fast sellers that is good enough for me. I don't mind if we can only put in 25 products in the ipad as long as the sale can go a lot faster then the current touch screen I use now. ( Ipad touch interface is way faster then my current macmini with Iiyami touch screen so that is GOOD) So I think the focus should be on fast fast fast sale of x amount of hot selling items. ( ...Well in my case then )

What I would use the iPad for is not to actually make a sale, but to make quotes and orders. It would be great to walk around the shop with a customer, discussing products and features, and the be able to immediately make a quote, which can be turned into an order or sale at the POS location(s).
The App would need to be able to print, so I can give the (potential) customer the quote to take home.

I am looking for an ipad app that does a lot. I run seasonal retail locations from carts at malls across the country. We get very busy near Christmas and I need to be able to have 2 -4 iPads, iPhones in use at the same time, similar to what the Apple Store does now. Their sales associates can sell you products without leaving your side. The perfect POS system (for me) would allow sales via iPad & iPhone, show me my available items, and in stock inventory levels for each item, price, item #, UPC code, etc. I need to be able to scan items with a bar code scanner or search for them by item # (sku#), item description or by typing ups code. I need to be able to offer various discount levels for various reasons. I need to be able to adjust inventory levels to account for damages, samples, buy one, get one offers, etc. I've been researching many POS systems...not all offer everything I need. It doesn't seem like I'm asking that much. Quickbooks POS had everything I needed but they are Windows based only. I changed over to Mac and am stuck with POS limitations. I open next week and haven't found the perfect match. Please contact me if you have any ideas. Thank you, Cheri Simmons, Silver Tree Enterprises, LLC

Hi, we want to use the iPad instead of a till, so would need the complete process from logging in staff user, creating new sale (with access to complete inventory), recording payment and printing receipt.
I have been looking at FilemakerGo as we have an existing Filemaker database of inventory, and maybe Checkout could operate on the iPad in a similar way by connecting remotely to the desktop version. There would need to be some way of reconciling or syncing the two, unless stock levels/payments etc could be updated in real-time, I appreciate this might make things more complicated. Maybe an end of session export?
Other things to consider: receipt printing (this looks complicated involving pdfs? ) and card integration. I've seen the Square swipe gadget, but that's US based and we need chip and pin.

Continuing on from my previous comment, having an iPhone version would be good too, I'd like to be able to use it for stock taking. Scan an item and enter quantities as I go round the shop.

Hi Cheri
If you want to replace your till machine with and Ipad and are opening already next week you could look at cloud based solutions. Like shopkeep.com and there are other players too like the more expensive Lightspeed. This thread here is all about Checkout and they aren't ready next week for this (I think). Of course Checkout is not cloud based and for many of us it has worked quite good for the last 3 years. So you could keep checking out to were Checkout is going since it is a great but currently limited POS at the moment.

Tom

What about this for an iPad app that will allow us to export products (we can do this already) and import them into the iOS app, where we can then scan an item (the program will do a lookup against the CSV file, and then when found prompt for a quantity) then scan and enter quantity over and over again.... then we can reimport this new CSV file to show the differences between expected/actual count.
If not found it will prompt us so we can set it aside to investigate.
Right now we are going to do a paper physical count which will require a printout of all our inventory, spend a few mins looking for the matching barcode on 20 pages of items and writing down the counts on this paper. Then manually updating the counts in checkoutapp if there are any differences. This is very time consuming for our 3500 sqft store.

I would love an iPad app that would allow me to see reports while i'm not in store. If i'm on vacation and I want to see some reports on how the store is doing. Also I would like to be able to scan items in the back room and be able to load them up to the desktop (cash register) on the floor out front. Great product! Thanks for this forum as well!

The main part for me would be receiving orders that have been placed. Because our orders don't come all at once, we need to put it through as they come in, but instead of making it back into the office, we can do it straight in the factory from our iPad.
Also the usual making orders, sales , quotes and what not. If you could incorporate a barcode scanner, so we could use the iPad Camera. Checking stock levels also & printing labels.
Do we know when abouts this App would be up and running?
Thank you!

First requirement for us would be simple read-only stock query, either from barcode scanner or text search of products, using ipad as an interface to on-site Checkout database on main till machine. This would save us from two staff trying to use single till and add value straight away.
Next most useful, being able to add products to an order or quote in the same way, whilst on shop floor with a customer This could be converted to a sale at the till.
We are currently a single site retail shop using one Checkout licence.
Further functionality as in all the orevious comments would be great, with purchase order stock receiving, and reports, and eventually sales to completion on ipad.
Very excited to hear this is being discussed and need it NOW! :-). Thanks.

Adding stock (either stock alterations in manager or purchase order) would be a must! Also a simple check on stock levels. Also the usual sales, orders and quotes.

As a CheckOut reseller, we get a lot of queries regarding a iOS App that integrates with existing CheckOut installations.
This as a add-on giving retailers the possibility to serve their customers on the floor instead of behind the counter. Via the iOS App they should be apple to see stock, pricing - carry out a sale, while their beloved iMac with the CheckOut serves as a regurlar POS/CheckOut Server.

When is this happening? I am reluctant to upgrade to V.4 as there is no iPad functionality yet. Checkout works well for our business of bricks and motar, but I think too much emphasis has been put on Shopify integration and not the instore features.
Also stop complaining that Checkout is expensive. $500 bucks is nothing if you are running a successful business. If you don't like it, go buy something else. Of course there are going to be problems.
Cheers Sam.

Is this still going to be something that the Checkout Team is working on??
It would need to have on screen signatures that get saved on each invoice. It would need to be able to adjust inventory by scanning barcodes.

Hi all,
Unfortunately we do not have plans to introduce an iOS app in the foreseeable future. If your business requires an iOS satellite app, it may make sense to look at alternative solutions.
