VAT (taxes) printed on invoice : EUROPEAN LEGAL REQUIREMENTS

European Community VAT laws are clear, precise and strict :
when applying VAT on an invoice, following information MUST be printed on each invoice :

1. total in EURO excl. VAT
2. per VAT %-age
-total amount in EURO where VAT rate is applied (the "basis")
-the VAT amount for that rate
3. Total including VAT taxes (=amount due)

Example : sale of 3 products
1 * product a : 500,00€ ex VAT, VAT rate 6% applies
1 * product b : 1000,00€ ext VAT, VAT rate 22% applied
1 * product c : 200,00€ ex VAT, VAT rate 6% applies

On invoice must be printed :

-each product line ex VAT
-VAT info-box:
rate basis VAT
6% 700,00€ 42,00€
22% 1.000,00€ 220,00€
VAT Total 262,00€

Total Invoice : 1.750,00€

This is not a feature request, this is a European LAW on what NEEDS to be on an invoice issued within the ECC so it is a legal invoice.

Currently, I don't have all that information on my invoices, since I am lacking variables, i.e. the value per VAT rate on which each individual VAT rate is applied and calculated.

Is someone able to help me with that ? Do I miss something on the variables or what you can do eventually with the existing variables ?

    Hello Patrick,

I've attached a test invoice that I created. At the bottom right it shows the total amount for each VAT code. If I understand what you need to see, this section needs to be more itemized - to display the exact amount that the specific VAT code is calculated on? Or, is it that the line items listed on the invoice should display this information?

    Hi Mike

Yes, it is like you say first :

    1. First print the total amount EXCLUDING VAT = 200 + 500 + 1000 = 1.700,00€

    2. VAT “part” :

next to VAT 6% rate, the total value/amount on which 6% is calculated must be shown , i.e. :

           500 + 200 = 700€ EXCLUDING VAT ; the calculated 6% VAT on 600 = 42,00€

next to VAT 22% rate, the value on which 22% is calculated must be shown , i.e. :

          1.000€ EXCLUDING VAT ; the calculated 22% VAT on 1.000 = 220€

    TOTAL VAT : = 42 + 220 = 262,0€ on the total amount EXCLUDING VAT of 700 + 1000 = 1.700,00€

    3. TOTAL
    =total amount EXCLUDING VAT + calculated TOTAL VAT ; 1.962,00€ (1.700,00€ + 262,00€)
That information MUST be on every invoice issued within the European Community !

Local/European accounting packages used for invoicing are in most cases presenting the VAT information in a box ; I have given you this example in attached excel sheet
    Looking forward to your response.

    Hi Patrick,

I've passed on the Excel example you have provided. Could you also provide a PDF of an actual receipt you've received? Just curious. I will let you know when I have any update regarding this.

    Hi Mike,

Any news on progress on this issue ?
New calendar year started, new fiscal year, was hoping I could send out invoices which are “legal” …

I am sending you in attachment an invoice made with an online invoicing service, where the VAT is presented correctly.
Hope this is clear to you now.

Please let me know/give me an indication when you think this will be added/fixed in a/the next release.

Hi, I wanted to ask if this is resolved, because in Austria we have 20% and 10% Vat on different items. This would be vital to work.

    Example: coke 20% tax
                     Pie 10% tax

    Best regards
    Mauricio

    Patrick,

I hope that we hear something soon from Mike, I don´t have much time left before I have to make a choice for which software to use. Like this it is not useable for the European market.
