Background

Checkout allows for three different types of sales entries - Quotes, Orders, and Sales.

Sales

A sale in Checkout is a transaction that you are creating for a sale that's happening right now. An example would be, I own a retail store and someone comes up to the counter to purchase a shirt. I immediately want to ring them up and charge them.

A sale does not require a customer (although it can have one) and should be paid immediately or deleted.

To create a sale in Checkout:

  1. Click on the New Sale button
  2. Scan or Add a product from the list on the right
  3. (Optional) Add a Customer
  4. Click the Checkout button

Receiving Payment

Once the Checkout button as clicked you will be prompted to select a payment method of Cash, Debit Card, Check, Transfer or Credit Card. If the customer is using multiple payment methods, select the first payment and override the dollar amount (it will automatically try to pay for the entire order). Hit pay and then hit pay again to finish paying the order. You can print the receipt by clicking the "Print" button at the bottom of the screen.

Orders

An order in Checkout is a transaction that you are creating that will not immediately happen. For instance, if I run a retail shop and someone decides that they want to place order for something I don't have in stock currently, but will be receiving in the next few days I would place an order. Unlike a sale I do need to attach a customer to an order. I can then place a deposit if the customer chooses to do so.

To create an order in Checkout:

  1. Click on the New Order button
  2. Scan or Add a product from the list on the right
  3. Add a Customer from the list on the right
  4. (Optional) Create a Deposit for the order
  5. Click Leave in the lower right

This will leave you with an open order that can later be allocated and converted to an invoice. You can print an order (if desired) by choosing File > Print from the menu bar at the top of the screen. This will not print a receipt - but a letter sized order form. Once finished you can click leave in the lower left.

Quotes

Quotes are estimates you give to customers for things they may want to buy but haven't decided to yet. Like an Order you need to attach a customer to quote. These are often useful in more service oriented work where you may be doing customization for particular customers, such as custom built furnite.

To create a quote in Checkout:

  1. Click on the New Quote button
  2. Scan or Add a product fromt he list on the right
  3. Add a Customer from the list on the right

This will leave you with an open quote which can be printed at the bottom (again on letter sized paper) and you can click "Leave" once it's completed.
